Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation committed to investing more than US$1 billion to help reach the goal of providing 120 million additional women with contraceptives, information, and services by 2020 in 2012. The Gates Foundation pledged to support the leadership of developing countries in addressing barriers that prevent women from accessing lifesaving contraceptives. The Foundation is committed to establishing a financing mechanism that enables the UN and country governments to procure contraceptives more efficiently and at a better value; developing partnerships to scale solutions that have the potential to enable sustainable domestic financing through the Global Financing Facility; and supporting efforts to build and expand data platforms to learn about the needs and challenges young people face in accessing contraception, information, and services. The Gates Foundation’s investments aim to improve quality counselling and accurate information on a full range of contraceptive options, without judgement or bias from health care providers.
